Electric Toys: Safety
Also Known As:
An international standard called BS EN IEC 62115:2020+A11:2020 focuses on the electrical function and safety of electric toys. The standard covers a wide range of electric toys, including dollhouses with interior lamps, functioning electric toys, construction and experimentation kits, and electric toy computers.
The standard is intended for knowledgeable and seasoned toy industry professionals, including buyers, designers, manufacturers, test houses, importers, distributors, health and safety executives, and trade standards.
The major goal of BS EN IEC 62115:2020+A11:2020 is to lessen the dangers connected to using electric toys, particularly those risks that are difficult for consumers to recognize. Taking into account reasonably foreseeable use and the fact that children are often less cautious than adults, it provides safety rules for electrically powered toys. The standard addresses a number of risks, such as overheating, heat and fire resistance, insulation strength, resistance to accidental short circuits, component failure, hazardous operation, incorrect power input, moisture and water resistance, mechanical strength, constructional suitability, component suitability, and optical radiation.
It is significant to note that because BS ISO 8124-1 addresses risks other than electrical ones, compliance with this standard also necessitates compliance with that standard. The 2020 edition of the standard includes a number of updates, such as revised and modified general conditions for tests, revised criteria for reduced testing, added warnings for toys using button or coin batteries, added warnings for ride-on toys, updated requirements for battery accessibility, requirements for toys placed above a child, updated measurement requirements, and modified measurement requirements for toys incorporating optical radiation sources.
