Electric Toys - Safety
Also Known As:
An electric toy safety standard is CSA C22.2 No. 62115:20. It supersedes the previous standard for electrically controlled toys and is the IEC Standard 62115 adopted by Canada. Any toy with at least one electrically dependent function that is created or marketed to children under the age of 14 is included in the scope of this standard.
For a variety of electric toys, including construction sets, experimental sets, functioning electric toys, electric toy computers, and dollhouses with interior lamps, the standard specifies safety standards. Additional specifications are also included for experimental sets, electrical toys with optical radiation sources, and electrical toys that produce electromagnetic fields. The standard addresses the safety of the electric toy with the batteries installed but does not address the safety of the batteries.
The following products are exempt from this standard: slings, catapults, automatic playing devices for public use, toy cars with combustion engines, and ornamental items for celebrations. Other items that fall under this category include swimming equipment for deep-water use, bicycles with a maximum saddle height exceeding 435 mm, and sports equipment for kids with body masses over 20 kg. In addition, things like fireworks, weapons, and interactive software are not covered by the standard.
