Household electric toys operating at nominal potentials of 120 volts or less, including extra-low potential, must adhere to the CSA C22.2 No. 149-1972 (R2017) standard. The Canadian Electrical Code Part I defines the usage of the standard in common, non-hazardous places.
Battery-operated toys with a main (non-rechargeable) type of battery or a secondary (rechargeable) type of battery that needs to be taken out of the toy for recharging are exempt from the standard. Additionally, wood-burning instruments and other similar burning apparatus are not covered by the standard.
