Standard EN SampleHousehold and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Particular requirements for spin extractors
Also Known As:
There is a standard known as AS/NZS 60335.2.4:2002 that deals especially with the safety criteria for electric spin extractors used in homes and other settings. These spin extractors, with a maximum capacity of 10 kg of dry material and a drum peripheral speed not exceeding 50 m/s, are intended to remove water from clothing and textiles.
Spin extractors with rated voltages up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances are covered by the standard. No matter their capacity, it also includes spin extractors built into washing machines. The requirement also applies to spin extractors used in stores, small businesses, farms, and other non-residential settings where they can endanger the public.
The standard tries to address the frequent risks associated with these appliances, although it does not specifically address the use of spin extractors by infants or elderly people without adult supervision. Additionally, it does not take into account little kids playing with the appliances.
It is important to remember that spin extractors intended for use in automobiles, ships, airplanes, or other particular circumstances may require additional specifications. There may be additional regulations set forth by different national water supply authorities, labor protection authorities, and health authorities.
Last but not least, it should be mentioned that this standard does not apply to devices made only for industrial use or for use in environments with unique requirements, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
