Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-4: Particular Requirements for Spin Extractors
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for spin extractors used in household and related electrical appliances are the topic of the standard IEC 60335-2-4:2021. It covers electric spin extractors with a maximum capacity of 10 kg of dry cloth and a drum peripheral speed not exceeding 50 m/s, both standalone and built-in to washing machines. The standard covers devices with rated voltages up to 480 V for other devices and 250 V for single-phase devices.
The standard covers spin extractors used in a variety of locations, including stores, small businesses, farms, apartment complexes, and laundromats. It talks about the typical risks that these items pose that everyone encounters in and around their houses. It should be noted that additional criteria might be necessary for appliances used in automobiles, ships, and airplanes, as well as for certain national legislation pertaining to labor laws, water supply authorities, and public health.
Appliances used only for industrial applications or in environments with unique characteristics, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres, are not covered by the standard. The sixth edition of the standard, released in 2008, and all updates since then have been replaced by this seventh edition. The edition makes adjustments, such as adding test probe 18 for accessibility to active parts, and aligns the language with IEC 60335-1, Ed 5, and its Amendments 1 and 2. It is intended to be used in conjunction with IEC 60335-1:2010, Fifth Edition, and any subsequent updates.
