Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-4: Particular Requirements for Spin Extractors
Also Known As:
The safety of spin extraction appliances used for domestic and similar applications is covered by the standard CAN/CSA-E60335-2-4:13 (R2018), which is titled Domestic and Similar Electrical Appliances: Safety, Parts 2-4: Particular Requirements for Spin Extractors. Both freestanding electric spin extractors and spin extractors built into washing machines with separate containers for washing and spin extraction are covered by the standard. These appliances should not be able to hold more than 10 kg of dry cloth, and the drum peripheral speed shouldn't be more than 50 m/s. For single-phase appliances and other appliances, the maximum rated voltages are 250 V and 480 V, respectively.
Spin extractors that are intended for typical domestic usage as well as those that may be used in stores, light industries, farms, apartment complexes, or laundromats are covered by the standard's scope. The goal of the standard is to address the frequent risks connected to these products. The security of people with physical, sensory, or mental impairments, as well as kids who might play with the equipment, is not considered, though. Appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft may need to meet additional regulations, and many nations may have their own standards imposed by national health authorities, labor protection agencies, water supply authorities, and other similar organizations.
Appliances used in locations with particular conditions, such as when there is an explosive or corrosive atmosphere, and appliances designed solely for industrial usage, are expressly excluded from the standard. With Canadian modifications, this standard is an adaptation of IEC Standard 60335-2-4.
