Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Stationary Cooking Ranges, Hobs, Ovens and Similar Appliances
Also Known As:
The safety of stationary electric cooking equipment designed for domestic use is the main topic of the AS/NZS 60335.2.6:2002 standard. The standard is applicable to appliances having a rated voltage of up to 480 V for other appliances and up to 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral.
Examples of appliances that fall under the standard's purview include griddles, grills, induction hobs, pyrolytic self-cleaning ovens, and steam ovens. It tries to address the typical risks connected to these products in a domestic setting. It does not, however, address specifically the usage of equipment by young children or elderly people who are not being watched, nor does it take into account any potential abuse or play with the appliances by young children.
The standard notes that certain appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft may need to meet additional criteria and that various nations may have different requirements for national health authorities, labor protection authorities, water supply authorities, and similar organizations.
The standard does not apply to portable cooking appliances like grills and toasters (covered by IEC 60335-2-9), microwave ovens (covered by IEC 60335-2-25), appliances used in locations with special conditions (such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres), or appliances intended for commercial catering.
