Also Known As:
Aquatic play equipment must adhere to ASTM F2461-20a's specifications and rules when it is manufactured, built, used, and maintained. The standard covers various types of climbable and climb-resistant components, water sprays, fountains, and slides used in public aquatic play areas. It also covers composite structures.
The aquatic play equipment covered by the standard must be found in or close to recirculated and drinkable water recreation areas, such as theme parks, water parks, family entertainment centers, public swimming pools, and city parks. Additionally, it covers slides with a height restriction of 6 feet or less.
Playground equipment that lacks an entrance or exit onto or into a wet deck, wading pool, swimming pool, or aquatic recreation pool is not included in the standard. Additionally, it does not include equipment for a home playground or swimming pool, waterslides covered by Practice F2376-17a, flotation devices used in swimming pools or on water slides, products or facility elements for people with disabilities, water rides like log flumes or raft rides, sports equipment, fitness equipment, or diving equipment.
For play equipment where water is introduced or applied indirectly or directly, the standard defines compliance criteria, including conformity with Consumer Safety Performance Specification F1487-17. Safety Performance Specification F1918-12 for soft, confined play structures with aquatic play elements is also mentioned in the passage.
The standard is divided into sections that cover the following topics: scope; referenced publications; terminology; manufacturing and materials; design; performance standards; operator; manufacturer/designer; installer; and responsibilities.
