Standards for soft confined play equipment's performance and safety are provided by ASTM F1918–21. This guideline aims to lessen the possibility of catastrophic and permanent harm.

This standard's coverage ranges from the 95th percentile of 12-year-olds to users in the 5th percentile at age two. However, it excludes toys, juvenile items, sporting goods, amusement rides, fitness equipment that is not a part of the play system, public playground equipment, private playground equipment, and water-related attractions and devices. Except for safety concerns not addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG), accessibility is not addressed in this specification.
