Standard ENStandard Specification for Helmets Used in Skateboarding and Trick Roller Skating
Also Known As:
The design and performance specifications for helmets used in the sports of skateboarding and trick roller skating are laid out in the ASTM F1492-15 standard, along with the related test methods. In order to pass testing, the helmets must, according to the standard, have certain characteristics, including peak acceleration and time duration, headforms and sizes, impact anvils (including flat, cylindrical, and triangular hazard anvils), a dynamic strength retention system, and impact sites, velocity, and schedule.
The standard's abstract also contains a number of significant points. First of all, it notes that the specifications' performance requirements only apply to helmets used for skateboarding and trick roller skating. Furthermore, it specifies that, unless otherwise specified in the specification, all testing and requirements must adhere to Test Methods F1446. Last but not least, the standard forbids the partial usage of the specification, which means that any certification of compliance with the standard must vouch for the helmet's full compliance with all requirements. It is prohibited to sell a helmet with any indication that it merely complies with a portion of the standard.
