Standard ENStandard Specification for Protective Headgear Used in Horse Sports and Horseback Riding
Also Known As:
In accordance with ASTM F1163-15, a test procedure for protective headgear used in equestrian activities and horseback riding is described. This standard aims to quantify the headgear's capacity to lessen head acceleration while colliding with variously shaped objects. The materials covered by this standard include a set of headforms and helmets that are the proper sizes, as well as the flat and equestrian hazard anvils used in the impact tests.
The helmet is put through a variety of conditioning settings, such as ambient, low, high, and submersion in water. The impact is then tested for dynamic loading and helmet stability at four distinct locations, including two on the flat anvil and two on the equestrian hazard anvil.
This specification establishes minimal performance standards and testing procedures for safety helmets. It does not rule out the possibility of taking into account future developments in performance or better materials. Unless otherwise specified, the testing and requirements of this specification should be carried out in accordance with Test Methods F1446.
