This standard acknowledges the value of ventilation and lightweight construction in helmet design, but it places more of an emphasis on performance than it does on limiting certain design components.

According to the standard, anvils can be positioned in any horizontal, centered position and should be centered on or above the designated test line when impacting helmets. Different environmental variables, such as hot, cold, wet, and ambient, are used in multiple experiments. In these tests, several types of anvils are used to strike the helmets, and the peak acceleration of the impulse during the impact is measured.

A positional stability (roll-off) test for the ambient helmet and a dynamic strength retention test for the hot, cold, and wet helmets are also included in the standard. It's vital to remember that this specification must be followed, and any product that doesn't comply with any of the demands is deemed to have failed the standard and shouldn't be advertised as complying with any of the requirements.
