Energy Performance of Food Service Refrigerators and Freezers
Also Known As:
The 1998 first edition of the standard is replaced by the second edition, known as CAN/CSA-C827-10. The requirement is applicable to commercial refrigerator, refrigerator-freezer, and freezer cabinets used to contain or store perishable goods like food.
The standard outlines how to measure the volume and energy usage of commercial refrigeration equipment that is powered by electricity. It encompasses a wide range of equipment, including reach-in cabinets, roll-in or roll-through cabinets, pass-through cabinets, closed cabinets of the unitary self-contained type, and more. It also covers manufacturers' standard catalogue-type equipment.
The standard includes freezers and refrigeration equipment intended for storage temperatures above or below freezing and is applicable to both permanently connected and cord-connected equipment. However, it does not apply to certain specialized equipment like soft-serve, slush, and shake-dispensing freezers, remote-condensing refrigerators and freezers, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, open-type refrigeration cases without doors, or residential or consumer household refrigerators and freezers.
Further exclusions from the standard include refrigeration products for mobile equipment and recreational vehicles, mitred transitional cabinet fillers used as corner sections, specially designed refrigerated storage cabinets made for a single customer, and refrigerators and freezers of laboratory quality.
It is significant to note that a different standard, CAN/CSA-C657, covers open and remote-condensing equipment used for retailing and displaying food products.
