Household Refrigerators and Freezers
Also Known As:
A standard that applies to home refrigerators and freezers intended for installation and use in residential buildings is CSA C22.2 No. 63-93 (R2013). The standard outlines the standards for these appliances' electrical connections, voltage, and phase. It applies to appliances connected to single-phase, 15 or 20 A, 100 to 140 V, or 15 A, 200 to 250 V AC circuits. Additionally, direct current (DC) circuits with a voltage of up to 30 V and combination AC/DC circuits are included.
The standard refers to all varieties of home refrigeration systems and their components by using the terms appliance, refrigerator, product, equipment, and unit interchangeably. Either the absorption type employing electricity as a heat source or the air-cooled type with hermetic refrigerant motor-compressors are options for the equipment. The standard covers a range of refrigeration units, including built-in, freestanding, wall-hung, recessed, and specialized units for use in recreational vehicles and refrigerated kitchens. These appliances' accessories are also covered.
In order to preserve the intended degree of safety for users, additional requirements can be required if a product differs from the features, components, materials, or systems described in the standard and increases the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.
