The tenth edition of the standard is the CAN/CSA-C300-18. It replaces earlier versions and has been reorganized by product segment to give users more clarity.

The standard complies as closely as possible with US Department of Energy (DOE) requirements for the energy efficiency and refrigeration capacity of household goods. The standard's section on other refrigeration items is in line with DOE guidelines for other refrigeration products.

With the financial assistance of numerous organizations, including NRCan, BC Hydro, Manitoba Hydro, and others, the standard's development was made feasible.

Compact and home refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, freezers, and other refrigeration appliances that run on 115 V, 60 Hz alternating current are included in the standard's scope. It establishes maximum capacity restrictions for several product kinds, with freezers having a maximum capacity of 850 L, miscellaneous refrigeration items coming under a separate clause, and refrigerators and refrigerator-freezers having a maximum capacity of 1105 L.

The standard complies with the standards of the Standards Council of Canada and is issued by CSA Group as a National Standard of Canada. The values in the standard are given in SI (metric) units, and any numbers in parenthesis are provided as additional information.
