Gas-Fired Pool Heaters
Also Known As:
The CSA/ANSI Z21.56:19/CSA 4.7:19 standard establishes guidelines and specifications for the design and operation of newly manufactured pool heaters. This standard is applicable to pool heaters that heat non-potable water kept at atmospheric pressure for use in hot tubs, spas, and swimming pools. It covers pool heaters made for use with liquefied petroleum gases, produced gas, mixed gas, and natural gas and air combinations.
In addition to applications where a portion of the primary circulating loop water is diverted through the pool heater and then re-enters and mixes with the primary circulating loop water before entering the pool, the standard specifies installation requirements for pool heaters in applications intended to temper the entire flow of the primary circulating pool loop water before re-entering the pool. It also includes guidelines for heaters put within five feet of a pool or spa's interior surface (sometimes known as "close proximity heaters").
The standard also includes pool heaters with automatic vent damper devices, draft hoods, and pool heaters with manually or electrically operated automatic flue damper devices for indoor installation. The standard defines measurement values and units, saying that if an equivalent value in another unit is offered, the first stated value should be taken as the specification.
The standard also contains particular clauses for the United States (Clause 7) and Canada (Clause 8), which speak to the countries particular requirements and rules. The particular construction clauses that apply to water heaters intended for use with an optional listed conversion kit are also included in Annex D. A list of reference publications containing standards cited in the document is included in the standard, along with information on where to find these reference standards.
