Standard EN SampleSustainability Standard for Household Clothes Drying Appliances
Also Known As:
An unified standard known as CSA R7005-17, or "Sustainability Standard for Household Clothes Drying Appliances," was created by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), CSA Group, and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL). The sustainability performance of home clothes drying machines is evaluated using a multi-attribute, life cycle approach in accordance with this standard.
Historically, only the amount of electricity used while the device was in operation was used to assess its environmental performance. However, this standard acknowledges that these goods also have a wide range of additional environmental and societal effects. The standard's multi-attribute approach determines a wide range of qualities and criteria that are most important for evaluating sustainability performance by taking into account elements like life cycle assessment (LCA) data and hot-spot studies.
The standard focuses on residential laundry appliances, particularly electric and gas dryers. It covers a range of product categories, including tiny electric dryers, ventless or vented electric dryers with varied capacities, and vented gas dryers. Water-cooled electric ventless clothes dryers are not included, though.
The authors note that new energy performance criteria established by the U.S. Department of Energy and Natural Resources Canada may cause periodic revisions and updates to this standard. Manufacturers and independent review organizations will use the standard to enhance sustainability performance in later iterations.
