Audio, Video and Similar Electronic Apparatus - Safety Requirements
Also Known As: CAN/CSA C22.2 NO. 60065:16
A safety regulation that is applicable to audio, video, and comparable electronic apparatus is CSA C22.2 No. 60065:16 (R2020). It covers electronic equipment used for receiving, generating, recording, or reproducing audio, video, and related signals that is powered by mains energy, supply equipment, batteries, or remote power feeding. The guideline is applicable to both residential and general usage, as well as public gathering spaces like offices, schools, theaters, and places of worship.
The scope of the standard covers equipment used in conjunction with the aforementioned technologies; however, it places a greater emphasis on safety than on aesthetics or functionality. It also includes equipment made to link to communication networks or other similar networks. Receiving equipment, amplifiers, transducers, musical instruments, educational equipment, projectors, cameras, gaming devices, teletext equipment, record and disc players, intercommunication equipment, and multimedia equipment are a few examples of the equipment covered by this standard.
The standard specifies requirements for equipment whose rated supply voltage does not exceed 433 V AC for equipment connected to a supply other than a single-phase or 250 V AC for equipment with a single-phase or DC supply. It applies to equipment used in dry places and areas with moderate or tropical temperatures at altitudes not exceeding 2,000 meters above sea level. For equipment that protects against splashing water, equipment connected to telecommunication networks, and equipment used in vehicles, ships, airplanes, or at altitudes greater than 2,000 meters above sea level, additional requirements are required.
