Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Food Waste Disposers
Also Known As:
The CAN/CSA-E60335-2-16-01 (R2015) standard is concerned with the safety features of electric food waste disposers used in homes and other settings. Appliances with a rated voltage of 250 V or less must comply with this specification.
Appliances used in stores, light industry, and farms are included in the scope of this standard even though they were not created with the intention of being used in homes. The main objective is to address the typical risks related to this equipment that people run into inside and outside of their homes.
It's crucial to remember that this guideline does not take into account the use of appliances by unattended young children, people with limited mobility, or the problem of kids playing with the appliance.
The standard's notes section includes a number of noteworthy points. First of all, it emphasizes the possibility of additional requirements for appliances meant for use in cars, ships, or aircraft, as well as in tropical regions. Furthermore, certain requirements established by national health authorities, labor protection agencies, water supply authorities, and related governing organizations in various nations may be applicable. Last but not least, it recognizes that installing garbage disposals may be restricted or illegal in some areas.
The standard is clear that it does not apply to appliances designed for use in situations with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, incinerator-style disposers exclusively for industrial or commercial use, or portable food waste disposers.
