Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Food Waste Disposers
Also Known As:
The CAN/CSA-E335-2-16-94 standard outlines safety precautions for residential electric food waste disposal devices.
The standard is applicable to food waste disposers that are mounted in a sink's outlet and made to grind food scraps into particles small enough to be drained into a home's drainage system with the aid of water.
The guideline, however, does not account for potential risks that might be present in nurseries or other locations where there are young children, senior citizens, or people with impairments without adequate supervision. Additional safety precautions may be required in these circumstances.
Incinerator-style food waste disposers, as well as those intended for use only in industrial or commercial settings, areas with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and portable food waste disposers, are expressly excluded from the standard. For food waste disposers intended for use in cars, ships, or airplanes, as well as for those intended for use in tropical nations, additional standards may be necessary.
It is significant to highlight that many nations have their own unique standards and laws established by national agencies in charge of protecting workers' rights, providing clean water, and maintaining public health. The provisions of this standard may be supplemented or exceeded by these requirements.
