Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Clothes Dryers and Towel Rails
Also Known As:
The CAN/CSA-E335-2-43-94 standard outlines the security requirements for electric towel rails and clothes dryers used in homes and other similar settings.
Whether positioned on racks or directly on a heated surface, electric clothes dryers that use warm air to dry textiles are covered by the standard. These appliances may be free-standing, mounted to a wall, or placed inside of cabinets, and the airflow may be forced or natural.
The standard also applies to electric towel rails used in domestic settings and other similar contexts.
While the standard largely focuses on appliances for homes, it also covers equipment that isn't meant for homes but could still pose a risk to the public, like those used in stores, small industries, and farms.
The guideline does not, however, address any unique risks that might arise in settings like nurseries or other locations with young children, elderly or infirm people without supervision, or both. Additional requirements might be required in these circumstances.
Tumble dryers and appliances made specifically for industrial use are exempt from the standard since they are governed by other provisions. Additionally, this standard does not apply to appliances used in environments with corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
Additional standards can be necessary for appliances designed for use in automobiles, ships, or aircraft. Similar specifications may apply to equipment designed for use in tropical regions.
It is significant to note that in many nations, extra standards may be set by national health authorities and authorities in charge of labor protection.
