Safety of toys - Part 2: Flammability
Also Known As:
A European standard known as DIN EN 71-2 lays out specifications and standards for the flammability of toys. The standard divides combustible elements into different categories and outlaws their use in all kinds of toys in an effort to protect kids as they play.
Toys that are thought to present the greatest danger in terms of flammability are subject to special requirements and testing procedures in the standard. These include headwear toys made of hair, pile, or materials with like features, such as beards, moustaches, wigs, masks, hoods, and headdresses. With the exception of paper novelty hats, which are frequently found in party crackers, the standard also covers the flowing features of toys worn on the head. The standard also covers soft-filled toys as well as toy disguise outfits, toys intended to be entered by a kid, and toys meant to be worn by a child while playing.
It's crucial to keep in mind that the test procedures and outcomes outlined in the standard only give an indication of the flammability of toys under particular test circumstances. When toys or materials are exposed to additional sources of ignition, the standard does not provide a thorough assessment of their potential fire risk. To ensure the safe and responsible use of toys, it is essential for producers, merchants, and consumers to follow the guidelines provided and to exercise caution.
