Buoyant Aids for Swimming Instruction - Part 3: Safety Requirements and Test Methods for Swim Seats to be Worn
Also Known As:
The safety specifications and testing procedures for swim chairs used in swimming teaching are laid forth in DIN EN 13138-3. The design, dimensions, components, strength, and in-water functionality of swim chairs are the main topics of this standard. Additionally, it has guidelines for labeling and manufacturer information.
Products covered by EN 13138-1 and EN 13138-2 are not covered by this specific standard. It specifically applies to objects that a user is placed into that are naturally buoyant, may be inflated, or both. It only applies to Class A products that are intended to introduce infants and toddlers (up to 36 months old) to the aquatic environment. The 18 kg body mass limit applies to these devices.
It is vital to note that Class B or Class C devices, as well as other swimming aids like pull buoys, swim rings, lifebuoys, buoyancy aids, lifejackets, or water toys, are not covered by this standard.
