Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-74: Particular requirements for portable immersion heaters
Also Known As:
An international standard known as IEC 60335-2-74:2021 deals with the requirements for portable electric immersion heaters used in homes and other settings. Immersion heaters with rated voltages up to 250 V are covered by this standard. Although appliances used in homes are the main emphasis, it also includes those that are used in farms, light industry, and stores that could endanger the public.
By considering the safety of all users, the standard seeks to address the frequent risks connected to these products. However, some people, including youngsters and those with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities, may need more guidance or instructions to use the equipment properly. It should be noted that several nations may have their own unique standards established by pertinent authorities.
Immersion heaters used in industrial settings or in places with unique characteristics (such as explosive atmospheres) are not covered by IEC 60335-2-74. Additionally, immersion heaters used in battery-operated devices, aquarium heaters, fixed immersion heaters, and portable liquid warmers are not included.
The standard's third version, which was released in 2021, coincides with IEC 60335-1:2020 and contains technical updates. It adds new specifications for devices that keep a liquid at a predetermined temperature. Unless otherwise specified, this standard should be applied in conjunction with the most recent version of IEC 60335-1 and any applicable revisions.
