The safety criteria for home and similar electrical appliances, particularly vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning machines, are the focus of the IEC 60335-2-2:2019 standard. It encompasses a variety of gadgets, including automatic battery-operated cleaners, centrally located vacuums, and vacuums for cleaning animals.
The standard also contains specifications for vacuum cleaners' motorized cleaning heads and current-carrying hoses. Appliances that are powered by batteries or other DC sources are included. It is significant to emphasize that this standard applies to appliances that are not designed for typical domestic use but nonetheless present a risk to the general public, such as those used in shops or offices.
The guideline attempts to address the frequent risks that everyone encounters inside and outside the house. It does not, however, take into account those with disabilities or a lack of expertise who might be unable to use the appliance properly without adult supervision or the right training. Furthermore, using the appliance by youngsters is not covered by the standard.
For appliances designed for use in vehicles, ships, aircraft, or areas with unique characteristics, such as the presence of corrosive or explosive atmospheres, the standard notes that extra criteria may be required.
Numerous improvements are included in this seventh edition of the standard, including updated specifications for equipment used in animal grooming, the conversion of some notes into normative text, clarifications regarding particular tests, and adjustments to annexes to be consistent with related standards.
