The safety standard IEC 60335-2-11:2019 is applicable to household electric tumble dryers and other comparable appliances. In accordance with the standard, tumble dryers must have a maximum rated voltage of 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. It also has allowances for tumble dryers, which may use flammable refrigerants and have sealed motor-compressor refrigeration systems.

This guideline includes both domestic equipment and those that could endanger the public, such as communal tumble dryers found in apartment buildings or laundromats. The limits of people who have physical, sensory, or mental difficulties or children using the equipment are not considered, nevertheless.

According to the standard, extra specifications set forth by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and water supply authorities in many countries may be required for appliances designed for use in automobiles, ships, or aircraft.

Appliances used in environments with unique characteristics, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and appliances with steam-generating devices that produce steam under pressure greater than 50 kPa are excluded from this specification.

The standard has undergone technical revisions to be in line with IEC 60335-1, to provide more thorough test specifications, to add specific requirements for appliances with steam generators and programmable electronic circuits, to replace the previous editions, and to do away with Annex AA as it is covered by Part 1. This eighth edition of the standard also replaces the previous editions and eliminates Annex AA. The most recent edition of IEC 60335-1 and any revisions should be utilized in conjunction with this section of the standard.
