IEC 60335-2-50:2021 PDF Download

A standard known as IEC 60335-2-50:2021 explicitly tackles the security requirements for industrial electric bain-marie. These devices are not meant for use in homes; rather, they are employed in commercial food processing facilities, including restaurants, canteens, and hospitals.

The specification applies to bain-marie with rated voltages of up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. It contains provisions for the electrical component of appliances that use various sources of power.

The purpose of the standard is to mitigate the frequent risks related to using commercial electric bain-maries. It does, however, recognize that in some cases, such as when the appliance is utilized in automobiles, ships, aircraft, or outdoor settings, additional standards can be required. Additional regulations might also be imposed by national water supply, labor, and health protection authorities.

Appliances made for industrial use, those used in environments with unique conditions (such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres), those used in continuous mass food production, battery-operated appliances, and those used to heat liquids for domestic use are not covered by IEC 60335-2-50:2021.

The standard's fifth edition replaces the one that was released in 2002 and has technical updates in line with IEC 60335-1:2020. It defines test specifications and specifies requirements for appliances used in public spaces. The standard also moves several parts for better organization and excludes battery-operated products. Unless the edition specifically forbids it, it is intended to be used in conjunction with the most recent edition of IEC 60335-1 and its revisions.
