Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-5: Particular requirements for dishwashers
Also Known As:
A standard called IEC 60335-2-5:2012 focuses on the security requirements for electric dishwashers used in homes and other similar settings. The standard is applicable to dishwashers with a rated voltage of no more than 480 volts for other appliances and 250 volts for single-phase appliances that are made for washing and rinsing dishes, cutlery, and other utensils. Appliances designed for typical domestic use as well as those used by laypeople in stores, light industries, and farms are included in the standard's scope.
The standard intends to address typical dishwasher-related risks that are encountered by everyone inside and outside the home. It does not, however, take into account the needs of people with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities who might be unable to use the appliance safely without supervision or guidance. Furthermore, using the appliance by kids is not considered in the specification.
The previous editions from 2002, along with any ensuing revisions, have been replaced by the sixth edition of IEC 60335-2-5, which was released in 2012. The addition of requirements to handle switch concerns and the transformation of remarks into normative text are a couple of the major changes in this edition. Additionally, several notes have been removed. It is significant to note that a different standard (IEC 60335-2-58) is applicable for commercial electric dishwashing machines.
IEC 60335-1:2010, which outlines general safety criteria for home appliances and other comparable electrical devices, should be read in combination with this standard. This version of the standard also includes the information from Interpretation Sheet 1 from September 2019.
