Furniture - Beds - Test methods for the determination of stability, strength and durability
Also Known As:
The fully completed beds, including bed frames and bed bottoms, can be tested to assess their stability, strength, and durability using a set of procedures outlined in the ISO 19833:2018 standard. Waterbeds, airbeds, foldaway beds, bunk beds, beds for individuals with special needs, and beds used for healthcare and medical purposes are not included in the standard, which applies to adult beds used in both domestic and non-domestic contexts.
It is crucial to note that ISO 19833:2018 does not address test procedures for evaluating the strength and durability of storage components, seating surfaces, and other bed-related elements, as well as aging, degradation, fire resistance, electrical functions, and other factors. Additionally, the standard makes no demands about the selection of loads, cycles, or pressures to be used during testing. If no specific requirements are given, proposed loads and cycles can be found in Annex A.
Furthermore, the tests outlined in ISO 19833:2018 are not intended to evaluate the toughness of upholstery materials such as fillings and coverings. Additional tests may be necessary if a bed includes extra features like storage, electrical adjustment, or the capacity to convert from a sofa to a bed.
