Also Known As:
The standard UL 2999:2020 covers particular commercial office furniture. The goods covered by this standard are used in compliance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, and are intended for use in dry areas. Both electrified and non-electrified furniture, such as motorized adjustable carts and stands for audio/video equipment, non-motorized adjustable carts, non-motorized tables and desks, storage cabinets, bench systems, and seating, are covered by the standard.
The standard focuses especially on goods with an ac voltage of no more than 600 V. Small office or home furnishings should be examined in accordance with UL 962, the Standard for Household and Commercial Furnishing. The Standard for Office Furnishings, UL 1286, covers panel systems for office furnishings.
Specific evaluation standards apply to non-motorized furniture meant to support audio and video equipment. The Standard for Household, Commercial, and Institutional-Use Carts, Stands, and Entertainment Centers for Use with Audio and/or Video Equipment, UL 1678, or the Standard for Wall- and Ceiling-Mounts and Accessories, UL 2442, should be used to evaluate the various types of audio/video support systems. The appropriate safety requirements of UL 60065, UL 60950-1, or UL 62368-1 may apply in some circumstances if the manufacturer supplies the cart, stand, or support surface with the audio or video equipment.
The Standard for Household and Commercial Furnishing, UL 962, covers the evaluation of prefabricated rooms, booths, and pods.
