Standard EN SampleSafety of toys - Experimental sets for chemistry and related activities
Also Known As:
Regulations for the safe use of chemicals and mixtures in experimental sets for chemistry and associated activities are outlined in the AS/NZS 8124.4:2020 standard. The standard covers chemical substances and mixtures that are included in the experimental set and are classified as dangerous by the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), as well as any other chemical substances and mixtures that may be harmful to children's health in excess but are not classified as dangerous by the GHS.
The standard is applicable to numerous types of experimental sets, including sets used for chemical studies in the domains of mineralogy, biology, physics, microscopy, and environmental research, as well as sets for growing crystals and creating carbon dioxide. It covers setups that have GHS-classified hazardous chemical compounds and/or combinations in them.
The standard contains standards for marking, contents listing, usage directions, eye protection, and equipment essential for conducting the studies, in addition to ingredient regulations. It is important to note that ISO 8124-11 contains special criteria for additional chemical toys.
