Standard EN SampleSafety of toys - Part 10: Experimental sets for chemistry and related activities
Also Known As:
ISO 8124-10:2019 is a standard that specifies the safety criteria for chemistry and related operations. It limits the number and concentration of substances and mixes that can be employed in these settings. This comprises compounds identified as dangerous by the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), substances that, in excessive concentrations, could impair children's health but are not categorized as dangerous by the GHS, and any additional chemical substances and mixes included in the set.
The standard is applicable to a variety of experimental sets, including crystal-growing sets, carbon-dioxide-generating sets, and additional sets. It also includes sets used in mining, biology, physics, microscopy, and environmental science experiments, as long as they contain hazardous chemical substances or mixes according to the GHS categorization.
In addition to substance criteria, the standard provides marking specifications, a contents list, instructions for usage, eye protection, and the equipment required to conduct the experiments. It should be noted that ISO 8124-10 concentrates mainly on chemistry experimental sets, whereas ISO 8124-11 covers criteria for various chemical toys.
