Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Commercial Electric Dishwashing Machines
Also Known As:
A standard called AS/NZS 60335.2.58:2018 is concerned with the security of industrial electric dishwashing machines. These machines are not meant for use in a household; instead, they are made exclusively for washing plates, dishes, glasses, cutlery, and similar items. The standard applies to appliances with a rated voltage of 480 V for other appliances and up to 250 V for single-phase appliances.
The standard recognizes the widespread usage of these machines in a variety of commercial contexts, including cafeterias, hospitals, bakeries, and butcher shops. It gives specific examples of these appliances, such as brush machines, batch dishwashers, and conveyor dishwashers.
Backsiphonage, or the unintentional flow of impure water into water mains, is another concern that is covered by the standard. Certain restrictions are outlined in Annex BB of the standard in order to prevent this.
The electrical component of these appliances is also covered by the standard because it is acknowledged that some appliances may operate using alternative sources of energy.
The standard does not, however, apply to certain appliances, such as those made specifically for industrial use, sterilizers and washer-disinfectors used in medical facilities, dishwashers that do not function as a single functional unit, separately driven transport devices, and equipment meant to be used in extreme environments like corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
