LP Gas - Portable and Mobile Appliances
Also Known As:
LP Gas (liquefied petroleum gas)-using portable and mobile equipment must adhere to the AS 2658:2008 standard. The standard covers a wide range of appliances, including portable water heaters made for outdoor usage, space heating appliances, lighting appliances, hand-held heating equipment, and cooking appliances. These appliances have an inherent gas supply with gas storage above a 50-mL water capacity, or they can be supplied with LP Gas from a separate gas container.
The requirements for using these appliances are outlined in the standard, along with the kinds of gas cartridges or cylinders that may be used as fuel sources. Additionally, it establishes standards for the safety and design of the appliances, making sure they adhere to the regulations to avoid potential dangers.
The standard does not apply to appliances that are designed to be connected to a fixed LP gas supply container, a fixed electricity supply line, or a fixed piping system in a house, a camper, or a boat. Additionally, it states that the appliances covered by this standard are not made to be connected to a flue for the discharge of combustion products.
Other relevant standards are cited in the standard, including AS/NZS 1596 for handling and storing LP gas, AS 2030 for gas cylinders, and other specifications for various device types, including kitchen appliances, space heaters, gas refrigerators, grills, and water heaters.
