Standard EN SampleFurniture: Strength, Durability, and Safety Requirements for Domestic Tables
Also Known As:
A European standard known as BS EN 12521:2015 specifies the minimal standards for the security, toughness, and longevity of home tables intended for use by adults. All home tables, including those with glass components, are covered by this standard. Office tables, tables used outside the home, tables used in educational institutions, and outdoor tables are particularly excluded because they are covered by separate European Standards.
It's crucial to keep in mind that this guideline does not apply to tables whose tops are not secured to the understructure. In other words, it does not apply to tables whose tops could separate from their supports during testing. The standard also covers stability tests; however, it does not evaluate the applicability of any storage features seen on residential tables.
It's also important to note that the standard does not specify how long castors and height adjustment devices must last. Additionally, it doesn't address electrical safety or aging and degradation resistance. An educational tabletop deflection test is included in the standard's Annex A.
