Furniture - Strength, Durability, and Safety - Requirements for Domestic Tables
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 12521 standard is primarily concerned with establishing the minimal standards for guaranteeing the security, toughness, and longevity of home tables intended for adult usage. The standard applies to a variety of tables, including ones made of glass. It does not, however, apply to tables used in offices, other non-domestic settings, educational institutions, or outdoor situations because those are covered by separate European Standards.
It's important to note that the standard does not apply to tables whose tops are not fastened to the substructure. With the exception of stability tests, the requirements in the standard do not evaluate the usefulness of storage features in home tables. The standard also excludes electrical safety, aging, and degradation resistance, as well as the longevity of castors and height adjustment mechanisms. An interesting test on tabletop deflection can be found in Annex A.
