The basic standards for safety, strength, and durability for various types of residential seats intended for adults are outlined in the European standard DIN EN 12520. The guideline only applies to seating intended for home use; it does not cover seating used in workplaces, educational facilities, ranked settings, or outdoor spaces. The standard also excludes standards for the longevity of upholstery materials, castors, reclining and tilting mechanisms, seat height adjustment mechanisms, electrical safety, resistance to aging, deterioration, and flammability, as well as ergonomics. The tests performed in accordance with this standard are predicated on the idea that users of the seating will weigh up to 110 kg.
