Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-12: Particular Requirements for Warming Plates and Similar Appliances
Also Known As:
A standard called CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-12:20 specifies the safety standards for electric warming plates, warming trays, and related devices. These devices, which have a rated voltage of up to 250 volts, are used to keep food or containers warm in homes and other settings.
The standard includes appliances made for everyday domestic use as well as those used by laypeople in retail establishments, small-scale industries, and farms. Appliances designed for use in business settings by professionals are nevertheless exempt from this rule. The standard considers the safety of all users inside and outside the home as it addresses typical risks connected to these products.
It is significant to emphasize that the standard does not take into consideration people—including children—who could have physical, sensory, or mental impairments that preclude them from using the appliance safely without adult supervision or guidance. The standard also excludes appliances made of flexible materials and those designed for certain settings with unique requirements, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
The standard acknowledges the possibility of additional criteria for appliances used in automobiles, ships, and aircraft, as well as the possibility of country-specific regulations set forth by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and other comparable bodies.
