Standard EN SampleParticular Requirements for Rechargeable Battery-Operated Commercial Robotic Floor Treatment Machines with Traction Drives
Also Known As:
A safety standard for autonomous commercial floor treatment machines is CSA/ANSI C22.2 No. 336-17. It is intended to address the safety concerns raised by these recently developed machines, with a focus on indoor-use machines with rechargeable batteries and traction drives.
The standard is applicable to equipment used for sweeping, scrubbing, wet or dry pickup, polishing, and shampooing, among other floor treatment tasks. These machines are designed for use in commercial spaces like hotels, schools, hospitals, industries, stores, warehouses, and offices and have a linear cleaning motion. The battery used in these machines shouldn't have a rated voltage greater than 75 V DC.
The standard addresses the safety criteria for these devices in line with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) in the United States and Canada's Canadian Electric Code, Part I. The safe operation of the non-lithium-ion and lithium-ion battery systems utilized in these machines is also addressed. The standard also covers how to recharge batteries using on-board or off-board battery chargers.
However, as battery chargers themselves are protected by different applicable standards, the standard does not apply to them. Additionally, it does not apply to equipment made for use outdoors, in corrosive or explosive situations, for scooping up hazardous dust or combustible materials, or on slopes greater than 20%. Additionally, this requirement does not apply to machines that use robotic arms (end effectors).
