Automatic Electrical Controls - Part 2-12: Particular Requirements for Electrically Operated Door Locks

SKU157696985 Published by Canadian Standards Association CSA Publication Date2019-06-01 Pages CountPages37

The specific specifications for electrically controlled door locks are laid out in CSA E60730-2-12. With Canadian modifications, it is an implementation of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60730-2-12. The standard is applicable to door locks that are installed in, on, or in connection with a variety of pieces of machinery, such as those used in heating, cooling, and related systems. This covers machinery that works using gas, oil, solid fuel, solar thermal energy, electricity, or a combination of these. In addition, door locks used in public locations, including stores, offices, hospitals, farms, and commercial and industrial applications, are covered by the standard.

The standard does not, however, apply to door locks made specifically for use in security access or industrial process applications. Additionally, it excludes door locks that are components of control systems or multi-functional controls with mechanical or other non-electrical components. The standard addresses door lock testing, operational values, equipment protection operating sequences, and inherent safety. Additionally, it applies to door locks for appliances covered by IEC 60335-1.

The standard takes into account door locks that use electrical and control circuits that are controlled by a variety of mechanisms, such as bimetals, magnet coils, memory metals, pressure elements, temperature-sensitive expansion elements, or electronic components. It also has door locks with mechanical components and manual controls. The standard is applicable to door locks that are powered by AC or DC and have rated voltages of no more than 690V AC or 600V DC. The reaction value of a door lock's automatic actions are not taken into consideration if they depend on how the control is mounted in the piece of equipment. The standard's annexes contain requirements for door locks that use thermistors and electrical components.
