Decorative Gas Appliances for Installation in Solid-Fuel Burning Fireplaces
Also Known As:
Guidelines for the construction and operation of gas appliances intended for installation in solid-fuel burning fireplaces are provided by the ANSI Z21.60-2017 and CSA 2.26-2017 standards. The standard is applicable to appliances with input values up to 400,000 Btu/hr that are totally made of fresh and unused parts and materials.
The specification covers decorative gas appliances that work with a variety of gases, including natural gas, propane, and mixtures of the two. Appliances intended for installation in manufactured or mobile houses are also covered.
Clause 4 of the standard covers the construction specifications for these appliances, whereas Clause 5 covers performance requirements. It is significant to highlight that the standard does not apply to unvented room heaters and that these decorative items are not thermostatically regulated.
The standard's definition of "appliance" pertains solely to decorative gas appliances installed in solid-fuel fireplaces. The standard provides that, unless otherwise stated, all pressure measurements are to be regarded as gage pressure and contains references for measurements in various units.
Additionally, Clauses 7 and 8, respectively, of the standard contain provisions that are exclusive to the United States and Canada. Additionally, it contains unique building guidelines for appliances made to work with optional conversion kits. Clause 2 of the standard contains a list of standards that are referenced and should be chosen in accordance with the specifications of the authority with power over the installation location.
