Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Surface-Cleaning Appliances Employing Liquids
Also Known As: CAN/CSA E60335-2-54-01
The safety criteria for appliances used for liquid surface cleaning are covered by CSA E60335-2-54. Particularly covered by this standard are domestic appliances used to clean surfaces including windows, walls, and empty swimming pools. These appliances shouldn't operate beyond their rated voltage of 250 V.
By addressing the typical risks connected with this equipment, the standard strives to protect everyone within and outside the home. However, it does not expressly take into account the usage of this equipment by young children who are not under adult supervision or by people who have impaired mobility, nor does it take into account kids who use the gadgets as toys.
The standard also notes that certain appliances intended for use in cars, ships, aircraft, or tropical regions may need to meet additional requirements. In some nations, national health agencies, labor protection authorities, and similar bodies may additionally impose more regulations.
It's important to note that this standard does not apply to floor treatment and wet scrubbing machines, cleaning equipment that is permanently fixed to a building, equipment that operates at high pressures or temperatures, equipment that is intended for commercial or industrial use, or equipment that is used in environments with unique requirements (like corrosive or explosive atmospheres).
