Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-55: Particular Requirements for Electrical Appliances for use with Aquariums and Garden Ponds
Also Known As:
The CEI/IEC Standard 60335-2-55 (third edition, 2002–2011) is adopted in the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-55-05 (R2013) standard. This standard applies to electric devices with a rated voltage of no more than 250 V that are made for use with aquariums and garden ponds for domestic and other uses.
Aerators, aquarium heaters, automatic food dispensers, and sludge-suction appliances are only a few of the appliances covered by the standard's safety standards. It includes equipment used by laypeople in stores, light industry, and farms that could endanger the public.
While the standard tries to address typical risks connected to appliances found in and around the home, it does not take into account the use of appliances by unsupervised young children or elderly people, as well as young children playing with the appliances. Appliances intended for use in automobiles, ships, or aircraft may require additional restrictions, and many nations may have their own unique regulations or requirements set forth by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, or similar entities.
Pumps, other portable immersion heaters, aquarium and garden pond lights, outdoor appliances with power inputs over 100 W, appliances used only for professional purposes, and appliances used in environments with unique conditions like corrosive or explosive atmospheres are all exempt from the standard.
