Outdoor furniture - Seating and tables for camping, domestic and contract use - Part 1: General safety requirements
Also Known As:
The general safety criteria for outdoor furniture used in residential, commercial, and camping situations are outlined in the standard EN 581-1. Regardless of the components, construction, design, or manufacturing methods used, the standard is applicable to items made for adult use. It does not, however, include provisions for spectator seats. Furthermore, the standard does not specify any standards for the longevity of the upholstery components, the castors, the reclining and tilting mechanisms, or the seat height adjustment systems. Separate sections of the standard—EN 581-2 for sitting and EN 581-3 for tables—address the mechanical safety requirements particular to seats and tables. The requirements and circumstances for shear and squeeze points are presented schematically in Annex A, and finger injury prevention is discussed in Annex B.
