Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-25: Particular Requirements for Microwave Ovens, Including Combination Microwave Ovens
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for domestic and similar electrical appliances, particularly microwave ovens and combination microwave ovens, are the subject of the standard IEC 60335-2-25:2020. Appliances with a rated voltage of up to 250 V must adhere to the specification.
The standard also specifies standards for microwave ovens designed for use on ships as well as combination microwave ovens. It tackles the typical risks posed by these gadgets and seeks to protect users inside and outside the home.
The standard does not, however, cover commercial microwave ovens, industrial microwave heating equipment, medical devices, or equipment designed for use in environments with unique characteristics, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
The standard highlights that it does not account for the capabilities and limits of people, such as kids or people with impairments, who may need supervision or particular instructions for safe appliance usage.
IEC 60335-2-25's most recent revision, released in 2020, offers clarifications and enhancements to meet certain safety concerns, such as the demands for simultaneous activation of heating elements and motors. The prior edition from 2010 and any updates it received are now obsolete.
