Range hoods and other cooking fume extractors are the topic of the IEC 60335-2-31:2012+A1:2016+A2:2018 standard, which focuses on the safety requirements for household and related electrical appliances. These appliances are made to be mounted above, next to, behind, or beneath domestic stoves, hobs, and other similar cooking equipment. The standard applies to appliances that are powered by electricity or other fuels and includes devices with a rated voltage of up to 250 V.
The standard's scope also covers appliances that the general public might use in farms, light industry, and stores, as well as appliances that could endanger them. The standard's objective is to address frequent risks brought on by appliances both inside and outside of homes.
