Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-31: Particular requirements for range hoods and other cooking fume extractors
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for electric range hoods and other cooking fume extractors used in homes are the topic of the standard IEC 60335-2-31:2012. These appliances are made to be mounted above, next to, behind, or beneath domestic stoves, hobs, and other similar cooking equipment. Regardless of whether an appliance is powered by electricity or another fuel, such as gas, the regulation applies to all appliances with a rated voltage of no more than 250 V.
Appliances used in stores, light industries, and farms that could endanger the public are also covered by the standard, in addition to those created for general domestic use. It attempts to address typical appliance-related risks that are encountered by people inside and outside the home. The abilities and limits of people, such as youngsters or those with physical or mental problems, who might need supervision or special training to use the appliance safely, are not taken into account.
The standard's fourth version from 2002 has been replaced by this fifth edition. The addition of new specifications for range hood installation and construction to minimize the possibility of entrapment is one of the modifications made in this edition. Additionally, the bibliography no longer includes a mention of ISO 13732-1. Within 12 to 36 months of the publication date, the standard advises national bodies to accept its content for implementation. IEC 60335-1:2010 should also be read in combination with it.
