Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-31: Particular Requirements for Range Hoods and Other Cooking Fume Extractors
Also Known As:
The safety standards for electric range hoods and other cooking fume extractors used in homes are the main subject of the IEC 60335-2-31:2012+A1:2016 standard. These devices are intended to be mounted above, next to, behind, or beneath domestic cooking ranges and hobs with a maximum rated voltage of 250 volts. The guideline also covers equipment used in light industry, agriculture, and retail establishments that could endanger the public.
This standard strives to address typical risks that people face inside and outside the house. However, it disregards anyone with physical, sensory, or mental impairments that could make it impossible for them to use the device safely without supervision or education, including children. The standard also describes its purpose and application, as well as the cancellation of the fourth edition that was released in 2002.
The removal of an ISO 13732-1 reference from the bibliography section is one of the major changes in this edition, along with new specifications for range hood installation and construction requirements to minimize the risk of entrapment. The publication's content should be adopted by national committees for execution within 12 to 36 months of the publication date.
The fifth edition (2012) and amendment 1 (2016) of the standard are both included in one consolidated version, which eliminates the need to order the amendment individually. The IEC 60335-1:2010 standard should also be reviewed in conjunction with this one for a thorough understanding of the safety criteria for home appliances and other comparable electrical devices.
