A standard called IEC 62885-2:2021 focuses on measuring the effectiveness of dry vacuum cleaners used in homes or other comparable settings. This standard's objectives are to create techniques for measuring these qualities as well as specify the fundamental performance characteristics of these vacuum cleaners.
The standard admits that variables including the operator's skill level, test material changes, and environmental circumstances can affect the outcomes. For more accurate results, it is advised that comparison testing be carried out simultaneously, in the same lab, and by the same operator.
The standard also permits adjustments to the techniques to be used with surface-cleaning products of other types or technologies not included in its purview. In Annex B, it makes a recommendation about consumer information at the point of sale and makes reference to IEC 60335-1 for safety regulations.
IEC 62885-2's second version, which was released in 2021, contains major technical updates over the first edition. These modifications include adding specifications for water filter vacuum cleaners, changing how the dry vacuum cleaner operates, condensing the test area and stroke length, including debris pick-up tests for carpets and hard floors, clarifying the use of carpets and the use of a mechanical operator, adding a durability test for secondary hoses, and making changes to informative annexes pertaining to the reference vacuum cleaner system.
