Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-7: Particular Requirements for Washing Machines
Also Known As:
A safety standard called IEC 60335-2-7:2019 primarily addresses the needs for electric washing machines used in homes and other settings. This standard covers washing machines with rated voltages of 480 V for other appliances and up to 250 V for single-phase appliances. Additionally, electrolyte-based washing machines are included.
The standard offers guidelines on guaranteeing safety against electrical and thermal risks as well as additional criteria for washing machines with power-driven wringers. Additionally, it expands its purview to include common household appliances used in laundromats, farms, light industry, and stores by laypeople.
The standard disregards the skills and limits of particular people, such as kids or people with disabilities, who might need supervision or training to use the washing machine properly.
It is significant to note that compliance with national health, labor protection, and water supply authorities, as well as unique additional regulations, may be essential for washing machines used in vehicles, ships, or aircraft.
Washing machines designed solely for industrial usage, equipment used in harsh environments (such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres), and equipment using steam generators with pressures greater than 50 kPa are all exempt from the requirements of IEC 60335-2-7:2019.
This standard's eighth version replaces all earlier editions and makes substantial technical modifications. These modifications include revised temperature limits for accessible surfaces, updated test procedures, and extra requirements for appliances controlled by programmable electronic circuits. They also include revised requirements for steam generators and additional definitions for washing machine types.
